How do I use the internal SATA ports on my Gateway desktop with Windows XP?

I've had this computer for just about a year now. It is through of EIDE connection to the hard disk, but also has 4 or 5 SATA ports on the motherboard that are not being used. I want to use them SATA ports because I bought an external hard drive that has eSATA, which I use for my laptop. I connected to the SATA port, but its not even read it or recognize it. Does anyone know how to activate them, or how to use them. My External HDD drive came with a desktop adapter for the eSATA port. so it goes from the regular L-shaped SATA to eSATA style. That goes into one of boxes commonly used for Express card, but do not use the actual castle just behind the room. Sorry if this sounds confusing, thanks for all your help.

Why is my USB printer that only works when plugged directly into the laptop and not via a hub?

I use a USB to Parallel Adapter to connect an older Canon inkjet for my new laptop. Everything works fine when connected directly to the laptop USB port. But it does not work when you Dynex Crystal uses an external USB hub. Windows 7 recognizes the USB-parallel adapter as IEEE 1284 controller when connected through a hub, but nothing printed to the printer. Windows 7 troubleshooter says everything is OK. All other devices (mouse, flash drives, etc.) work through the hub. Device manager says the USB Printing Support, and power is available in USB hub when printer is connected. Any help is appreciated.

How can I backup files via USB to ATA / IDE adapter and a SATA HDD?

I bought a USB to ATA / IDE adapter today. I hooked it up to my Toshiba Satellite laptop with Hitachi SATA HDD 80g 75000rpm. The system can not give me any errors I live has not the faintest idea where or how to start backup my data from my laptop. I can not see the hard drive in my computer. The only thing I have is it safe to remove the button on the toolbar. Geeks Please help! Regrets HDD is 7500rpm

Can you safely disconnect an sata hard drive with the computer on (if it has external power)?

As I understand it esata is basically just sata with an external connector, but if you plug an sata drive into the motherboard, can you unplug it with the computer still on? I leave one side of my desktop open, so this would be no problem for me, I could just get a longer sata cord, but I don’t want to have to turn the thing off every time I want to plug the drive in somewhere else. I’m thinking of buying an external hard drive with both esata and usb 2.0 so I can move it between my laptop and desktop.

Will a Toshiba M35X-S311 laptop boot with a dead battery using only the AC adapter?

The laptop will come on and then go off. I had a colleague tell me that this model will not boot with a dead battery (one that will not take charge) just on AC power. Is that correct? Will a new battery take care of the problem?
